Geek Reviews: Play and Record Internet Radio with Screamer Radio
Last weekend I ran across a very cool Internet Radio and Recording program named Screamer Radio. This program is extremely light on system resources and offers a ton of music and programming resources, with one button push recording included.
Installing Screamer Radio
Installation and setting up Screamer Radio is a breeze. First select your language and hit OK.
Next you will be asked if you want the radio presets to be updated every time the application is started. It is always good to stay current, so you should probably accept the recommendation.
Using Screamer Radio
That was quick set up. Now we are ready to start looking at what this has to offer.
The first thing you will want to do is click on Presets to choose between an impressive number of radio stations by Genre, Language, Network, or Region of the world. (Apparently there is even a radio station in Antarctica). Also, there will be a link to the current station’s website displayed.
Not only are there thousands of international radio stations from, you can record them too! Simply hit the Record button and wait. There is no limit to the amount of content you can record either.
Some audio applications limit that or make you buy their pro version for this feature. Another cool feature is that you can start recording in the middle of a song and you will still get the entire song file.
There are a few settings you can change around as well. One of the first things I changed was the path to where I wanted the recorded audio to be stored.

Of course there are other settings to change the way the player functions, change colors, and adjust the Bitrate of the recorded MP3’s.
Another feature is it automatically logs all activity. This will be very useful for any troubleshooting you may need to do.
Conclusion
Screamer Radio is a great Internet radio recording program which is super light on system resources. The radio station database is enormous where you are sure to find suitable music and other programming. There is also a Portable Version you can stick on a thumb drive. The user interface is simple and less than spectacular, but effective. As is I can see myself using Screamer Radio on a regular basis.

I would really like some sort of program as this, but for streaming video. So I can watch the streams offline on my laptop/iPod/HTC Touch.
Are you able to add stations, or do you have to go off the list?
Can I stream directly to Microsoft Zune or PSP 2000?? If so then how?
Yuk! Tried the latest version. Tried the previous beta version. Menu items vanish or refuse to work. Radio stations that can be played from their websites don't play. This software (verified by checking out their forums) just doesn't work. Please actually try these things before you say how great they are. This one is far from ready for anyone to try.
I absolutely LOVE Screamer, and have used it for months.
Amazing review!
This site is the best!
ChroniX Metal all the way!!! Listen now!!

You can add stations, yes.
And yes, the menus are annoyingly disappearing sometimes.
But with MirandaIM you can set it to display what song you are listening to, on MSN… " -=Ben=- is listening to Need by Blinded Colony"
It's awesome
screamer worked great when i had XP, but it crashed a lot in vista. to me it was one of the best i've ever used.
i should have checked out the link before my first post. screamer radio has completely updated itself. this is the best online radio program with tons of stations to chose from. the sound is clearer also. now if joost could make a comeback…
I've been using StationRipper to record internet radio
It's always been great at doing "old-school" internet radio - but the latest version records Pandora.com, AOL Radio, Rahpsody, Last.fm, and a bunch of others. Woot!
Thanks,
Great software. Works great!
