Send Text Messages Via Email For Free
One of the text message utilities I have been using for years is Teleflip. Rather than waste my money on text messaging friends and colleagues from my cell phone. I use this service. I find it much faster to type out a quick email to them than screwing around with the keys on my phone. Just click on the image below to try out Teleflip.
Another cool thing you can do with Teleflip is enter in the cell number you want to contact into your email. I find this a lot more beneficial than going to their website every time. You just need to type in 1(555)-555-1234@telefip.com and send the text message on its way. Then you can save that contact to easily text message your contacts from email. *Note I have only tried this with my Yahoo Email account and it works, so I cannot speak for any other services. it works for any email service, not just yahoo. Actually Teleflip is pretty old, around two or three years.
I suppose this does not work in the UK. Our cell phones have 11 digits!

PS I note that the T-Mobile ad on this page has a .co.uk address though!
TeleFlip is only available in the US, with limited service in Canada and Puerto Rico. Took my a fair deal of trawling on TeleFlip's website to find this info.
The T-Mobile ad having a .co.uk address is probably tied to your having a UK-based ISP, or IP address - wonderful these targeted ads!

This is what Wikipedia is saying about why the site is not working nomore.
"On August 12, 2008 Chief Executive Tony Davis e-mailed subscribers that the company, which at one time had as many as 25 employees, was shutting down its services and would explore selling its technology.
As of September 6, 2008 the official Teleflip website was non-functional and SMS message delivery failed."
