Completely Uninstall Programs And More With Revo Uninstaller

Don't you hate it when you try to uninstall a program it either does not include an uninstaller or when using Add / Remove Programs in Windows, there are several traces of the software left?  It is definitely one of my bigger pet peeves … just check out my iTunes uninstall rant.  I came across a cool little program the other day that claims to do a much better job of uninstalling applications and all of the tidbits and left-overs associated with them.  Revo Uninstaller.

When first launching Revo the first thing I noticed were all of the additional features not included with Window's Add / Remove utility.

1

Here I am going to show the process of uninstalling an unwanted toolbar from a Vista machine.  After double clicking the program you want to remove the familiar 'are you sure' message will pop up.

1

Now for the cool part!  Revo lets us choose how to uninstall the application using different mode levels.  Here I am going to choose the Advanced mode.  I don't want a single trace of this toolbar left of my hard drive.  **Keep in mind that if you are on a domain, software information will still be kept in the AppData folder under your profile.**

1

Progress while scanning including the steps Revo is taking.

1

This is what I like to see the most … Scanning for leftover information!  This is the entire reason I really dig this application.

2

And here we are, it turns out this toolbar did indeed decide to leave some additional information in the registry.  If there were left over files or folders associated with the program it would show those as well.

Revo Uninstaller is available in multiple languages!

Other options you can tweak to your liking.  As you can see some features are not available in Vista but I am sure updates will include more features.

This application works on both Windows Vista and XP.  Other options include deleting your Internet browsing history, and deleting certain start up programs and services.  Oh!  And I didn't even cover Hunter Mode!  I must say this is quite an impressive utility!  Download Revo Uninstaller.

Geek, when are you going to do some more support articles over Ubuntu 8.04? Lately it seems that you're in a Vista swing. While I don't hate that you're supporting individuals who are using that OS, some people like myself refuse to use Vista.

Good article. Based on your screenshots, I obviously need to update my version of Revo Uninstaller!

This is probably _the_ most useful application on my machine since I like to try out various freeware programs.

I have been using Revo uninstaller for several months. It works well, and nearly always finds leftover junk after the regular uninstaller runs. Yippeee!

Great program. Been using for a little while now but have forgotten to uninstall some things. It sure does get rid of alot more than a typical uninstaller would do. Thanks for the reminder.

Super nice find! Way to go. This is why I keep coming back.

    One other nice feature:
Download the portable version. You can copy that folder to an USB Mass storage drive and use it without any installation required!

I've used this tool for quite some time now and it's never let me down. Simple, slick, and quick.

A word of warning to not-so-advanced users: be careful when using this utility. It's very easy to remove files, folders and registry keys that are pretty important! If you're not sure what you're doing, put down the keyboard and step away from the computer ;)

With great power comes great responsibility!

This program is awesome! Just tried it out last night and I've only has my laptop since Jan. and I couldn't believe all the left over stuff and garbage that I deleted. Thank you very much for your insight on this (FREE) program.

Awesome program. Got rid of all the extra stuff that Toshiba put on my laptop that I couldn't manually uninstall!

@ weylinthedirty this is a great point! Revo can be used as a good decrapifier program!

Not that I would ever want to, but does this mean if a trail software ran out it could erase traces of an "expired trial"?

Geek, a fantastic review on a cool tool. It only lacks one - a batch uninstaller, like the one that comes with Glary Utilities.

Great program, really. Had been using it for a long time until I upgraded my computer and now run 64-bit Vista. Unfortunately, it won't run under Vista x64.

As OJ said this utility can be dangerous. I was trying to uninstall itunes and I believed I did this properly, but obviously I missed something. Revo ended up deleting some important files like the file allowing me to access the internet, the widgets file and the help and support files. Luckily system restore allowed me to turn back time.
So I stress that if your not an advanced user and don't have any computer backups, don't use this program.

really great program, but not working good with Vista x64. Found programs, but only x86 :( I can't unistall programs x64

  16. Kanis

Does anyone have an uninstaller that works with Vista X64? I have a program that I've removed and tried to re-install but it keep picking up files from the previous installation, which is causing issues. I can't find where these files are located. I was hoping an uninstaller would be able to help.
