How to Start KControl on Kubuntu
Instead of the default KControl (also known as KDE Control Center) for managing settings, Kubuntu opts to use a custom control center/panel known as System Settings. For many tutorials here, as well as on other sites, you may need to use KControl instead of this custom solution. KControl is still included with Kubuntu, it is merely not evident as to how to access it.
Run the Command
The quickest way to access KControl is simply to run the command kcontrol. You can do this in the run dialog (access via K Menu > Run Command or Alt+F2) as shown below or on a terminal window. However, on a terminal window you may prefer to instead run kstart kcontrol so that you can continue to use the terminal while KControl is open, assuming there is little command line output.

Add it to the Menu
This method is the best for most circumstances. Instead of having to run the command each time, you can simply add it to your KMenu like any othr program.
1. Right click on the KMenu and select Menu Editor.

2. On the left hand side, select the category you want to put KControl under by expanding it. I personally have it under Settings. Then go to File > New Item on the menu bar.

3. Enter the name of your choice, though I suggest KControl for ease.
4. On the left hand side, select enter kcontrol under the command field. Optionally, you can choose to add an icon. If you search for kcontrol you will find the default icon.

5. Now simply go to File > Save to save the settings. KControl should now appear in your menu.
I have previously recommended replacing the System Settings with KControl in the menu, however I now do not suggest doing this as it may nullify some Kubuntu tutorials for some.
