Combining Contacts on Pidgin
If you use a multiprotocol IM application, you are bound to have at least one person that uses at least two different services that you use as well. This makes for a longer and harder to follow contact list. Fortunately, in the popular cross platform IM application Pidgin, it is possible to combine two contacts into one master contact. (This tutorial should also work with the Gaim 2.0 betas such as the version included with Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn.)
1. Right click on the contact you wish to combine and select Expand.

2. You should then see it the contact expanded, as below.

3. Drag and drop the contact you want to combine to the expanded contact.

4. If you wish, you can drag in more contacts to combine.
5. Once you collaspe the expanded contact, you should then see what appears to be a normal person on your contact list. Until you hover over a combined contact, you will never notice the difference.

Have fun leading a more organized IM life!

Now I don't have to wait for digsby on nix!
Hm, 'expand' to 'combine' is a pretty counter-intuitive user interface…
