Huge Jump for How-To Geek in Compete Rankings!
It was very thrilling today to see that we've gone from 115,000 in the Compete ranking all the way to 33,129, which is a heck of a lot better.
Both Compete and Alexa have completely inaccurate numbers, of course, but it's good to see the jump anyway. I can't understand how their numbers can be so far off for things like visits per month or pageviews. We had about 740k pageviews for the month of July with 340k unique visitors according to Analytics, but Compete shows the visit count at 62k.
Either way, it's still fun, and this month is on track for almost 800k pageviews.

TG,
Great stuff, even if the numbers are approximate. Though TekTag is still but a small ripple, entries from howtogeek.com remain among the most popular.
Anyway, out of curiosity, to what do you attribute such a sudden jump in your traffic?

@TJ:
I really don't know what could have caused the spike… which actually went up a bit since I wrote this post as well. I think it's around 26k now on compete.
Of course, we are doing about 30% more traffic than last month.
Funny what a mysterious world Web ranking/optimization is. Keep up the good work.

Never even heard of compete before. Looks really cool though. Do you like it better than alexa?
Both compete and alexa seem to have really flawed sampling models based mostly on toolbar usage, but they are the only real place to get ranking information.
