Feedburner to Google: Worst Transition Ever.

As most people know by now, Google bought FeedBurner, and just recently they have started transitioning all of the feeds from the feedburner.com domain over to feedproxy.google.com… which is where the problems began.

To start off with, the feeds had to be transferred manually by sending an email request, which seemed a little odd… and didn't go well, with my branded feeds.howtogeek.com RSS feeds being completely down for almost a day. They fixed that up quickly…

The second problem I started noticing is that the feed counts almost never work anymore:

image

Then the Ping FeedBurner form doesn't work anymore, even when using the new Google version. (The old FeedBurner one claims to work but does nothing now that I've switched)

image

Then I started getting this error when trying to access the feed (for most of the day)

HTTP Error Code: 500

Detail: There was a problem retrieving the feed:
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

image

If you click on the "reload this page" link you get another error… I don't even know what that is about.

image

So I started looking in the panel for the FeedMedic alerts, which have pretty much had nothing but errors for a week now. (Note that there's nothing wrong with my feed, and most of the errors were something to do with BigTable or database locks)

image

That's when I finally found the Contact Feedburner link… which sadly goes to the old form on the feedburner side of things. Since my account is now on the google side, I can't even sign in to fill out a report.

image

So at this point, there doesn't seem to be any resolution to this, or any decent way to file a report. I'm pushing this out there in case anybody else has an idea.

And yes, I left a message in the Google Group already, which doesn't appear to be frequented by Google employees.

Update: I sent an email over to the original adsense migration people, who finally responded. They say the issue is my hosting provider? That seems really unlikely, and doesn't answer why everything else is broken.

Update: All of my counts are completely set to zero now, including the widget which I've removed.

Update: Now the counts are back.

I've been having similar problems. When I transitioned my FeedBurner feeds to Google the number of subscribers fell off the chart. The old and new feeds seem to work. I don't get it. Maybe their reporting system is off.

I have a different webhost than you and I'm having problems too, so it probably isn't the hosting provider.

My subscriber numbers also dropped to zero, and I got a few of those "read time out" errors. But, my subscriber numbers are back to normal, and I don't seem to get anymore "time out" errors. However, when I try to disable MyBrand I get a "Trouble at the mill!" error. Oh well, not even Google can be perfect, at least everything is getting fixed up.

I, too, have problems with my rss feeds not displaying the correct numbers if I select to have all articles read. If I select them one by one, the number is displayed correctly. Also, if I close and un-close the tab, the number is correct. I hate this bug!

Interesting timely post. Google Groups has a ton of reports of these issues, and I just blogged about this on Search Engine Roundtable. The fact that Google claims that it's an issue with your hosting provider means that Google clearly has no idea what's going on — look at the 7 related threads that were gathered for that post. Google needs to acknowledge that this is an issue with their service and it's nobody else's fault. It's not only you that is being negatively impacted.

So, when you get an e-mail from Google telling you its time to manually transfer your feed you just ignore them until they insist? Sounds like my upgrade path from Dos 3.3. to Dos 5.1 — just ignore it until they come up with something that actually works!

Having the identical problem right now. Annoying as anything. Hopefully, the feeds will be up in a few hours. (fingers crossed)

I have never seen such a irresponsible behaviour from google people,I have transferred my feeds to google account nearly a month ago and now i think i have created the biggest mistake of my life.
All my professional services are gone no optimize, troubleshoot, monetize and activity tabs are availiable it only shows me feed count in my old gadgets which also i cannot customize and change in my google feedburner account it shows me nothing else then the feedcount.
When i click other things it says trouble at the mill i dont know which in the hell mill they are talking about here i am losing my subscribers and they are having trouble at their mill sounds funny but these google people are playing with people, i never expected this from google, i have send many mails to those people but no one is responding,In response to other replies let me tell you i am using the blogger domain itself so they cannot say its the problem with your hosting provider so i think they are not replying
People there is no problem with your hosting providers its the problem with google's system they are simply unable to tackle the problem

What makes you people think Google is any different from any other big, insensitive provider who never dares admit being at fault for anything? Do you think they CARE how many people they burn? In the first place, their lawyers would quit if they admitted anything was their fault, and in the second place, unless they are goring the ox of someone as big as CBS, they are totally deaf.

I am also having the exact same issue with my feed. I've not begun the migration to googl from feedburner but my feed burner account does say that: "Hey! We are moving FeedBurner accounts to Google. Learn more or Move your account now. "

The only thing that has changed recently is my nameservers. I have no idea how to fix this issue!

  12. cool

I have the problems that is described above, feedburner does not send out e mails to subscribers.
    any help???
