Well kids, it's done.  I have completed the submission for the Media Center Installation competition being run over at TheDigitalLifestyle.com (Apologies to Ian for getting the site wrong in the original post!!!)  You can check out mine and the other setups here.  I must say there are some terrific examples of how you can implement this technology.  And apparently a lot of folks who either aren't married, or have spouses much more forgiving than mine :-). 

Take a look around.  I hope you find some stuff that may help encourage you to try your own setup.
